According to a report from Edge, the third installment in the gorefest third-person-shooter “Gears of War” saga, will arrive in April of 2011, with a teaser trailer dropping next month.

Series developer Epic Games are handling the development duties and the story arch is said to continue to detail humankind’s struggle against the Locust.

A source reporting to Edge says the game could be finished as early as this year, but won’t see release until April 2011 to stay well out of the way of Halo: Reach’s September 2010 release and Project Natal at Holiday 2010.

"Microsoft’s keen to avoid a clash with Halo: Reach and wants Natal to own Christmas. That’s why we won’t be seeing Gears Of War 3 until next year, but expect a major marketing push ahead of its release," said Edge’s source.

More details on Gears of War 3 are expected for E3 2010 in June.
