The “must have” toy, and Toy of the Year nominee, “Zhu Zhu Pets,” is getting its own video game.

Coming to Nintendo’s DS exclusively, the game, published by Activision, will be all kinds of cute when it touches down in Spring 2010.

For anyone unfamiliar, Zhu Zhu Pets are realistic-looking plush hamsters that intelligently move around on the floor (or any space) and even make noise. They’re kinda cute, I won’t lie. But a video game?

“Ever since Zhu Zhu Pets(TM) exploded in popularity, launching a video game has felt like a natural fit in product evolution,” said Natalie Hornsby, Director of Marketing Strategies and Brand Development, Cepia, LLC. “We share our fans’ excitement in bringing Zhu Zhu Pets(TM) to the video game space, and think this will help us reach more kids to engage in the Zhu Zhu Pets(TM) experience.”

No word on what the game will entail, only that it exists and will likely sell very, very well, considering how stupidly difficult it is to even find the actual toy.
