Page 6 reported today that Phil Spector – legendary record producer turned murder – has been whining about prison.

Spector was given a life sentence for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson, but apparently doesn’t think that qualifies him to live in what he called a “snake pit.” In a letter to friend and music manager Steve Escobar, Spector complained about being in the same prison as Charles Manson and Sirhan Sirhan, saying, “Imagine sending me to the same prison — shows how low they can go. They’d kill you in here for a 39-cent bag of soup!”

However, California prison spokeswoman Terry Thornton said,”It’s ridiculous! Because Spector is not in the same prison!” She is, of course, correct. He has actually been in the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility, about two miles from the Corcoran State Prison holding Manson and Sirhan.

Spector also complained that a “mean and nasty guard” made his ex-Playboy model wife, Rachelle Short, change her clothes four times during a visit because they didn’t meet the prison’s dress code.

In his letter, he called his wife’s visits “Darwinian blessings,” and said, “Rachelle piled me up with dinners to eat in my cell so I don’t have to go in to the dining room with the scumbags.”

With all these negative words and accusations flying around – snake pit, mean and nasty, scumbags – I can’t help but remember an elementary school lesson:

It takes one to know one, Phil.
