Rock Band seems to be a very logical name for exactly what the experience entails.‚  Finally gravitating to the full band, immersive experience, Rock Band delivered a total knockout punch and wakeup call to industry heavyweights in the way the genre would be forever looked upon.

However, the wonderful final project we love and enjoy today was not simply crafted and finalized without the plethora of design changes and possibilities that developer Harmonix worked so hard to perfect.

Speaking at GDC, Harmonix senior designer Dan Teasdale noted that elements like big rock endings, the full band experience, and rescue from the brink of failure all made the cut while certain others did not.

Mini-games, flaming guitars and various title possibilities were tried and judged, ultimately finding themselves in the trash can.‚  What names you ask failed to make the cut? Try out these awesomely horrible names for size.

  • Big Band Blowout
  • Power Chords
  • Metal Lords
  • I Want To Be A Rockstar!
  • Rock Band: World Tour

While it is easy to remark and criticize in hindsight, man oh man am I glad Harmonix decided upon the name they did.
