Microsoft announced today that sales of the real time strategy game “Halo Wars” reached one million copies globally, making the Halo-branded Xbox 360 exclusive title the best selling real-time strategy game on any current generation console.

Developers have dabbled into the console RTS genre before, but none with the dynamic success of Ensemble Studios.‚  Halo Wars has finally perfected the difficult keyboard and mouse control translation to game pad, leaving the player in total control of the vast and unpredictable battlefield.

Microsoft also dropped some Xbox Live usership figures stating:

  • There have been more than 2.6 million multiplayer matches played.
  • More than 118 years of time has been spent in multiplayer matches on Xbox LIVE.
  • On average, more than 200,000 “Halo Wars” fans battle online each day

Clearly, anything with the Halo name has again proven pure gold for Microsoft, and while Halo Wars is a far cry from the epic Master Chief driven FPS Halo, the inclusion of Mythic Map codes in the Limited Edition’s certainly moved a few units alone.

Now that you have 1,000,000 reasons, download the Halo Wars demo here, and give it a spin.
