Capcom has officially announced Dead Rising 2 for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Windows PC. The follow up to Dead Rising, the highly rated Xbox 360 title from 2006, Dead Rising 2 will feature the same type of survival horror gameplay but in a new location: Fortune City. Instead of the confines of a mall, Capcom’s sequel looks to feature the dazzling setting of a casino and will include brand new objects to be used as weapons against the zombie horde.

However, unlike before, Capcom will not be developing the title alone and be opting to utilize a smaller publisher, Blue Castle Games, based out of Canada. Luckily for fans, members of the original development team will be back to guide the new squad along the way, including producer Keiji Inafune.

Dead Rising 2 takes place some years after the original where Frank West, photojournalist for hire, tried to uncover the truth behind the origin of Willamette, Colorado’s zombie invasion. Unfortunately, the virus was not completely contained at the story’s end and, according to Capcom, the sequel picks up there with zombies spreading to other regions throughout the country.

It’s still unknown whether West will return in any form in the sequel or whether there are any significant plot lines that connect the two games. Also unknown is the release date for the sequel or if any major changes will be made to the gameplay. One major gripe from players of Dead Rising was the save system, which allowed for only one save per game and littered save spots in hard to find places. Also annoying were the controls, especially the targeting system, which felt stiff and unresponsive at times.

Stay tuned for any more information, especially the game’s release date, and media as it becomes available.
